Police Charges Man with Attempted, Murder, Kidnapping

The V.I. Police Department on Friday arrested 22-year-old Leroy Simon Jr. and charged him with attempted murder and kidnapping in an attack on a woman in old Fredensberg, Frederiksted.

According to police, officers responded to a 911 call reporting an attempted sexual assault. At the scene, the officers made contact with the victim, whose name was not released.

She told officers the the suspect had grabbed her hair and dragged her into an abandon house across the street. He threw her on the ground began strangling her, she said.

The victim said she fought herself free, but he again grabbed her by the throat and continued strangling her. She continued fighting him and she was able to get free and ran away into her residence.

The suspect was located after he fled the area in Estate Glynn. At 5:20 p.m. Sunday Simon was arrested and charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault and kidnapping. His bail was set at $100.000; unable to post bail he was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Center.
