Labor Begins Taking Applications for Summer Youth Employment and Training Program

The V.I. Department of Labor (DOL) has begun accepting and processing Summer Youth Employment applications for the 2017 Summer Youth Work Experience and Training Program.  All “In and Out of School” youths between the ages 14 to 25 are invited to register for the approximately 650 available slots. Youths, ages 14 and 15 years-old, are eligible for the Career Exploration program, according to a press release from DOL.

Applications may be obtained and then submitted electronically through the department’s Web site at http://www.vidol.gov/form_management.php. They can also be picked up at any of the DOL office locations on St. Croix and St. Thomas. St. John residents can pick up registration forms at the St. John Administrator’s Office.

A Summer Employment Fact Sheet is also available online providing additional information for participants and parents.  This summer, priority will be given to individuals who submit completed applications accompanied with supporting documents, and who:

  1. a) have not previously participated in a work experience
  2. b) are high school juniors or seniors
  3. c) are out-of-school, unemployed or dislocated youth

Those under the age of 18 should be accompanied by a parent/guardian to sign authorization for participation in the program. All applicants should be prepared to provide

  1. a) proof of educational and legal residency status;
  2. b) proof of enrollment in college, high school
  3. c) evidence of a social security card
  4. d) Photo ID and a copy of a resume if available

While applications continue to be received throughout the year for other programs and activities, young people are strongly encouraged to submit their applications for summer experiences by June 16.
