Weekend Traffic Initiative Yields Arrest for Marijuana and Firearm

Troy A. Somme Jr. was arrested Saturday during a traffic stop initiative, “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” and charged with drug and firearms offenses.

In a news release issued Tuesday, the V.I. Police Department said the 26-year-old Somme had been pulled over at 11:21 p.m. in the vicinity of Tide Villages in Christiansted. The stop was part of on Office of Highway Safety initiative.

Officers allegedly discovered a little more than a pound of marijuana in Somme’s car, along with a a Glock handgun and more than $2,900 in cash, the police said.

He was charged with possession of ammunition, failure to report a firearm, and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. Somme was remanded to the Golden Grove Detention Facility pending his advice of rights hearing.
