Man Pleads Guilty to Being a Felon in Possession of a Firearm

Shawn McIntosh, 24, pleaded guilty Monday in federal court on St. Croix to being a felon in possession of a firearm, U.S. Attorney Ronald W. Sharpe announced.

The plea took place before U.S. Magistrate Judge George W. Cannon.

According to the plea agreement filed with the court, police officers encountered McIntosh on July 9 while searching for another individual at the Hidden Island Bar in St. Croix. Upon seeing the police, McIntosh ran and officers observed him tossing an object, later determined to be a firearm.

McIntosh had been convicted in 2012 of third-degree burglary in V.I. Superior Court, Sharpe said.

McIntosh faces a maximum of 10 years incarceration and a maximum fine of $250,000. A sentencing date has been set for May 24.

The case was investigated by the V.I. Police Department and the FBI. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Alphonso Andrews, Jr.
